I, Adam Nelson-Ockenfels, am the sole artist behind NOA Ceramics - which is a single artist owned and operated local business in Iowa City, IA. The goal of NOA Ceramics is to create custom made ceramicware that is thoughtfully made for the people and homes for which they’ll belong. I emphasize quality, durability, and sentimentality within the work.
In addition to custom made pieces I also create a range of small batch functional ware as well as sculptural decor.

My name is Adam Nelson-Ockenfels, I am a BFA student at the University of Iowa, and I specialize in thrown functional ware. After teaching Middle School Social Studies for several years, I went back to the University of Iowa to get my endorsement to teach art. I originally emphasized in photography up until my first ceramics class a little over a year ago. After my first ceramics class I was absolutely hooked. I changed my emphasis to ceramics and added the entire ceramic BFA class regiment to my schooling.

I just recently graduated, officially wrapping up my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics and my passion for crafting quality clay pieces remains. Whether you have a favorite cup, a special office mug, a sentimental vase, or a bowl that everything tastes better out of - you also have a degree of passion for functional ware, and my appreciation for that connection grows every day as I strive to create pieces that people can enjoy for years to come.
